My first experience with the queen of Icelandic crime fiction was a definite 5 out of 5. An immersive, slow-burning, page-turner that had me completely enthralled. I absolutely love when a good story unfolds slowly and then picks up pace, and I Remember You does not disappoint. I love when the supernatural is used (well) in a thriller as long as it’s not predictable or cheesy. This was neither!! Totally authentic in its feel, I was glued and devoured this while savouring every page! Again, this book has all kinds of themes I absolutely love;
A wintery Nordic noir feel ✔️
isolated village ✔️
interconnected characters ✔️
a mysterious house with a spooky past ✔️
and more and more!
Highly recommend. 5 out of 5

We horen weer iets!!

This is such a stale book. Not a single thing about it feels creative. It hits every single base for the most basic ghost story. There are two cheating plot twist and I immediately guessed both of them. The ending wasn't too bad and that's the reason it's not a one star.

Great ghost story with enough mystery elements to keep you guessing what the different characters have in common.

There are two storylines - Freyr, a psychologist living on the mainland and Katrin, a woman rehabbing a creepy old house on an isolated island with her husband and friend.

I found Freyr's storyline ... incredibly boring. His day to day activities are described in painful detail and very little happens to him until about 70% of the way through the book. He's also a romantic mess, imagining a relationship with every woman he meets (which is vaguely explained by his past but still feels odd when he's meant to be suffering over the death of his son and working to untangle the bizarre facts of a newer, similar, case).

I really enjoyed Katrin's storyline. Reading about people being haunted and hunted by a child demon on an island is the best.

I thought the ending was satisfying and I was glad the supernatural elements weren't explained away.
