I truly enjoy the Song of Fire and Ice story but I just can’t click with Martin's writing (especially its portrayal of women and their sexuality). For this reason I have a hard time fully enjoying the books.

However, putting that aside. I loved how the story has more form than its predecessor and introduces more characters to us, as well as making previous characters more rounded and robust. I do have to say that its pacing was kind of troublesome to me as I feel that a lot did happen in the book but it was pretty droll throughout the major events

It's a civil war. It's messy. There are more sides to every side and those sides swap sides. It's often impossible to tell who is who, as new houses and factions emerge. But somehow it all comes together.
And it's a great, if harrowing read.
Ps, presumably Daenerys will eventually feature as something more than a wanderer.

Reread to compare to the show.
Even though I initially read this book back in the early 2000’s I’m glad I picked up my computer again.
It’s a fantastic read, but I  do feel the GRRM relies too much on SA to add drama or character development.
The larger themes of war and all its players is still thrilling.

There’s no denying that it is a very good book, and clearly strong source material for the HBO show.

I did not like it as much as the first, but it was not bad.

Idk. There’s something about these books that scream “this was written by a man!!!” I could give about 58 examples but I’d rather die than think about them.

Again, just like the first book, the discussion of underaged sex and sexuality will turn your stomach. It’s really not doing what Georgey thinks it’s doing. It’s pretty vile.

Other than that, the relationships and politics are quite interesting! Would not read again, but mostly happy I read it once.
