A sad ending, but a good story arc. It's sad to see so many side characters fall to the Akuma, but it was definitely in the back of my mind that all the humans had to have been affected by the Akuma with that level of exposure. Linalee's innocence evolving to protect her as it did has yet to be explained, though the Bookman seems to think it might be significant since it's never been done before. Is Linalee the heart? Is Allen? Who could be the heart?

This whole volume was essentially one big battle, mostly between Lenalee and a single, upper-level akuma. I guess because there wasn't much story here, wasn't much text, that this one only gets a passing grade. The only characters I feel connected to are Allen (he's such a sweet guy), Kanda (he's broody and dangerous, a very sexy combo! hehe), and, maybe strangely, Komui (I can totally relate to his lack of organization skills, and I love how he's essentially a genius but a real slacker as well), and they are all absent here. And Miranda cried again. I think someone should start a drinking game and take shots every time Miranda cries.

This series is getting better and better! The most heart-wrenching scene from this series so far, the art style is improving and the pace is getting better. 4.5 stars!

The akuma attacking the ship on its way to Japan are strong, and among them is a very powerful Level 3. Lenalee uses her dark boots power to venture out onto the ocean to fight it. Will she be able to defeat an akuma so powerful on her own? Can Lavi and Arystar Krory destroy the other attacking akuma, who are hidden behind the clouds? Can Miranda hold the ship together long enough for them to make it to Japan?
