3,5 - the writing of this beautiful. It reads like a spooky fairytale and I loved Olivia’s character. However the pace of the story was off and I found that some of the themes and the relationships could have been explored a bit deeper to make us more involved in the story.
I feels very YA, still worth reading but not her best work.

I enjoyed Olivia’s character a lot, it was a such an interesting add up for her to be mute and I like the whole Gallant fam (not blood related but Hannah and Edgar and even Matheew were super fun to read about). I listened to the story as an audiobook, however, the theme isn’t really for me I think, that’s why I chose the rating I did.

I love this book. It's nice that Olivia the main character doesn't speak and everyone around her just has to deal. I like that she signs to communicate. I love that there wasn't a crap ton of build up or horror it was perfect. It was a build that felt real and enticing. I'm really looking forward to reading more V.E. Schwab.
