I want it to be 4.5. Realistically it should be 5, but I really just wanted more background story and set up to get a bigger picture of everything.

The writing was very pretty but the book was very much not for me. I enjoyed the end though.

I just felt very disconnected from the book (with the characters, relationships, plot, etc. all feeling shallow). I think it might have been better told in first person? Then, at least, we would get a better sense of Olivia/what it's like to be there.

Ahh, a nice new V. E. Schwab story. I love anything she writes, and Gallant was no different. Same charm and fairytale writing that I like as always, but the plot itself was fairly predictable and nothing really stood out as being particularly remarkable, especially compared to some of her other books. But still a good (and quick) read that I enjoyed!

Ah, I live Queen Schwab. She never misses. This one is a short book about shadows and death, finsing your home, where you belong to and fighting for your existence. Clearly a dark, gothic one. Excellent read.

4.5 stars. This book was beautifully written, and Olivia’s character was fantastic. The vibes were mysterious and dark, and I liked the way the history of the Priors came to be known. The story felt a little slow in parts and you don’t really know the crux of the story until the last 50 pages or so - but they are brilliant, so it was worth it.
