January 2020 - Ben really likes this one. Most of the stories are beyond his reading level, but the title story is perfect for him.

My nephew (currently 6) FREAKING LOVES THIS BOOK! His favorite story, which also happens to be my favorite story, is The Green Ribbon. Oh my he just gets a kick out of that ending! I reread it to him so often that he can recite it to me on days I don't want to read it. I love this book for the memories I have of it (my older sister gave me a copy when I was about 6 and I fell in love with Jenny) and for the memories I now share with my own little nibbling. Everyone should share this book with a child they love.

This was my absolute favorite book as a kid. It's one of those where you remember the illustrations so vividly, even over 10 years later.

I don't usually add my son's books to my reading log while reading them to him, but this was so nostalgic and fun that I had to. I didn't realize until a few days ago that the Alvin Schwartz scary story collections are being re-made in the "I Can Read" books for today's kids, and that's super exciting to me because there isn't nearly enough children's horror in the book world these days and it would be nice to see these take off and inspire more modern authors to write more horror for kids! In the meantime, my son (who is 6) really liked these and I had fun re-visiting such familiar stories I grew up on. ♥

Acquiring this book at a second-hand bookstore for half a US dollar is just a bonus. This is a good collection of creepy stories. Though aimed primarily for children, there are four stories in this collection that gives me goosebumps consistently each time I re-read them.

If you happen to come across a copy, buy it immediately. Perfect for All Hallows Read.
