Second chance romance. Dual POV, Victorian era. The mystery was a nice subplot that helped balance the emotional strain of the romance.

3.75 stars. Quickie review- I enjoyed this book. Not as much as Ian's book, but still good. I did feel it was a little too angsty, but I liked Isabella and Mac and their relationship.

Lady Isabella ran away from her debut ball and married a wild, Scottish, Highland, artist. For better or worse. But after three years of separation - her husband Lord Mac MacKenzie has had quite enough of being separated and wants to be truly married to her once again.

This was so fun and so angsty and so great! Lady Isabella is a toughie but has a huge heart and it is so broken. Mac is a giant teddy bear with major issues from his past he hasn't dealt with well before now. Both grow and change and it is the best kind of second chance - the kind where they realize their own mistakes and actually deal with them. They don't act like the past never happened, they both admit that it wasn't just the other person's fault and both evolve because of it.

Also wicked steamy! AND SLOW STEAMY. Something I have never understood is how in romance novels people jump from celibacy to straight-up sex - there are often many steps along the way in the building of intimacy - or rebuilding in this case - and this book does a great job of that! And it is definitely hot all the way through.

There is a heartbreaking story of a miscarriage that could be triggering for some as a heads up.

I liked it! It was cute!!

I don’t know why I love the second chance marriage trope in historical romance so much. But it’s so delicious when the 2 idiots are so obviously gone on each other.

I’m so in love with the whole Mackenzie family. I don’t think any of them will replace Ian as my favorite, but Mac absolutely tried his best! The spice and longing were so great.

If you liked this, definitely try The Wayward Duke (and vice versa).

Not *nearly* as good as the first one.

I love Jennifer Ashley and the MacKenzie series is one I've read a few times. Marry in haste, repent in leisure definitely applies in this case, especially when divorce is difficult and extremely expensive. But after a few years apart, this couple works out their issues. Definitely worth reading!
