I didnt expect to love this. Gothic is not my thing, and horror is REALLY not my thing, but I couldn't put this book down.

This book is a gothic horror novel, set in 1950´s Mexico.
Noemí, a young socialité from Ciudad de México, loves going to parties, wearing dresses and kissing boys, until one night her father gets a concerning letter from her older cousin, Catalina, who had married and moved away a year ago.
She has to go to the Doyle Mansion, where Catalina lives with her husband, a handsome but mean british man and his family, Florence, a stuck up and strange woman, Charles, a centennarian strangely obsessed with eugenics, and Francis, a young man who seems to be the only sane person in the household.
The book starts very slow, with long descriptions reminiscent of XIX century gothic novels, but it is very interesting, and i was so inmersed while listening to it that i forgot to study or eat. Noemí is a great heroine, the Doyles are disgusting, and i don´t wanna see mushrooms ever again.
Trigger warning, though, the novel contains descriptions of sexual assault, attempted rape and some body horror.
