This was my first encounter with The Stainless Steel Rat and it remains my favourite entry in the series. In this one, Mr Harrison retreads some plot ideas from his even funnier novel The Technicolor Time Machine but spins them with some inimitable Stainless Steel Rat action. This was a glorious, amazing read when I was 14 and it's still a heap of fun nearly 35 years later. The mind bending timey-wimey shenanigans feel like a deus ex machina until you start to look closely at the plot when they become part of a clockwork puzzle designed by Picasso and built by M. C. Escher with parts crafted by B. S. Johnson.
Glorious, nostalgic fun.

One more in the goofy scifi world of The Stainless Steel Rat. I listen to these at night, when falling asleep, so it takes awhile to get through one, as I fall asleep in about five minutes. The content of the book has no effect on how easily I fall asleep, although a really compelling book will often mean that I stay awake for many additional hours to listen. Books in this series are fun but not that compelling!

Harry Harrison does it again for the third time with The Stainless Steel Rat Saves the World.
A romp if there has ever been one, 'Slippery' Jim DiGriz is sent back in time to the future to stop a time-war from happening.
An adventure into paradox, Harrison has a blast with time puns and his ever charismatic character.
Please for the love of God if you want an old comedic sci-fi series (not Hitchikers) pick these up at your local used bookstore, you'll thank yourself.

I shall be introducing my children to Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat as soon as I can!
