I didn't like this one as much as I liked Perfect Chemistry. For a start, I found Kiara to be SO ANNOYING. I really took a dislike to her! I liked Carlos and her gay friend (sorry the name escapes me), though.

I found this book to be too close to the first one, it was pretty much the same thing, hispanic boy and a white girl falling for each other despite being different races. I know eveyrone else is rating this high but unfortunately this one just didn't grip me like the first one did. I haven't even really read the 3rd one because I already know the storyline: the same as this one and the first. You can guarantee that the Fuentes brother is going to get into some trouble with the Latino Bloods, you can guarantee he's going to fall in love with a girl (although in the 3rd one, Nikki isn't white like Brittney and Kiara) and you can definitely guarantee that the girl and the brother will have a dislike for each other at first then somehow learn to tolerate each other.

On the plus side, it could be very entertaining and have some funny moments, mainly because Carlos is definitely the joker of the brothers, he's also more boisterous. But, it was just too cliche and I found Kiara simply had no substance. She was a mary-sue with a stutter (and it became super predictable that she wouldn't stutter around Carlos), she was boring and had nothing more to her other than her stutter. Also her personality just went back on itself a lot of times. She's portrayed as shy, innocent, not afraid to get her hands dirty, not too girly, keeps to herself but then she dons a racy black gown to suddenly show off a figure we never knew she had?

By the time I got to the end of the book I could barely stomach it. Again we had a trip into the future to see their children and you can pretty much guess what happens before even reading it. Sorry, Simone but you should've stopped with the first one. Repeating the same thing for 2 more books just isn't interesting.

Read this author when I was younger and loved her. Now I am 21 and can tell her writing style is much too young for me. However, the book talks about drugs and has sex scenes so it's not really appropriate for too young of an audience either.

I think Carlos is my favorite Fuentes! ;)

Carlos was such a brat... Seriously, I understand he came from a bad background but his mentality of "everyone is trying to get me or just pretending to give a shit" was exhaustive sometimes, this is way I can't give this book more than 4 stars. I do love that Kiara challenges Carlos instead of just being bullied, that was fun, I really liked the intimacy, like in perfect chemistry a lot of the context is in the subtext, the touch of the hand, the frases that got stuck in half, it's a decent book if you want to get lost in a YA without overthinking much.

LOVE the story in this book. Once again, Simone Elkeles is one of my favorite authors.

Wow, was für ein tolles Buch... Ich muss ganz ehrlich sagen, dass ich ein paar Seiten gebraucht habe, bis ich in den zweiten Teil von Simone Elkeles' "Perfect Chemistry"-Trilogie reingefunden habe. Vor allem brauchte ich ein wenig, bis ich so richtig warm geworden bin mit Carlos und Kiara, wogegen ich bei dem ersten Band der Trilogie so ziemlich von der ersten Seite an vollkommen in den Bann gezogen war. Doch auch "Du oder der Rest der Welt" brauchte nicht lange, bis ich dann doch mitgerissen hat - und zwar so sehr, dass ich kaum aufhören konnte zu lesen und sogar gestern und heute trotz Schule so viel zu lesen geschafft habe, dass ich das Buch gerade beendet habe und immer noch ganz berauscht davon bin. Es war ein wirklich wunderschönes Buch; eine tolle, spannende, rührende und großartige Geschichte. Ich habe Kiara und Carlos viel schneller in mein Herz geschlossen, als ich dachte, und finde ihre Liebesgeschichte fast genau so schön und mitreißend wie die von Brittany und Alex. Ich mochte es sehr, wie man ganz langsam auch die sensiblen und verletzlichen Seiten an Carlos kennen lernte und wie er durch Kiara und die Westfords begriff, dass es auch für ihn eine schöne und lebenswerte Zukunft geben kann, wenn er nur versucht, sie selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. Ich mochte vor allem die Westfords wirklich gern; nicht nur Kiara musste man ins Herz schließen, sondern auch ihre Eltern und den kleinen Brandon. Mir gefiel es auch, dass man aus der Sicht Carlos' und Kiaras noch etwas über das Leben und die Beziehung von Alex und Brittany erfahren hat.
Ich mochte, wie die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Carlos und Kiara aufgebaut war. Die anfänglichen Streithälse, die sich dann doch Hals über Kopf ineinander verliebten, obwohl sie damit niemals gerechnet hätten... Die beiden haben mir wirklich das Herz erwärmt, mich zum lachen und zur Rührung gebracht. Was ich jedoch von all den schönen Szenen zwischen Kiara und Carlos - wie seine Bekundungen, wie wunderschön sie sei oder alles, was sich auf und nach dem Homecoming Ball zwischen ihnen abspielte, Carlos "Ich gehöre dir"-Nachricht - am schönsten fand, war wahrscheinlich der Epilog der Geschichte. Wie auch schon im Vorgänger gab Simone Elkeles in diesem einen Ausblick auf die Zukunft der beiden. Carlos und Kiara sind glücklich verheiratet mit drei Kindern und haben - Dick Westford sei dank - einen "Übeltäter" bei sich aufgenommen und Carlos erklärt ihm seine Hausregeln, sowie Dick es einst bei ihm getan hatte... Und es ist, als nehme die Geschichte, wie sie zwischen Carlos und Kiara war, wieder ihren Lauf. Ein Rebell, der sich in Carlos' Tochter Cecilia verliebt wird. Es war so ähnlich wie im ersten Teil, als man Alex und Brits Sohn Paco im Chemieunterricht erlebte.

Alles in allem kann ich nur zu sagen, dass ich diese Bücher wirklich sehr, sehr liebe und sie es mir vollkommen angetan haben. Sie haben sich schon jetzt einen besonderen Platz in meinem Herzen und unter meinen Lieblingsbüchern erkämpft. Simone Elkeles hat eine ganz tolle Art zu schreiben, die mich sofort in den Bann gezogen hat und auch, wenn ich romantische Geschichten ohnehin liebe und YA Literatur sowieso, so lese ich meist in Richtung Fantasy, Dystopie und seltener solche Geschichten, aber auch gern, wenn es das richtige Buch ist. Doch Simone Elkeles hat mich mit ihren Geschichten um die Fuentes-Brüder wirklich in den Bann gezogen und ich freue mich schon sehr auf das dritte Buch, in welchem es um den jüngsten der Brüder gehen wird, Luis. Und ich wünsche irgendwie sehr, dass die gute Mama Fuentes noch ein paar Söhne hätte.

After reading Perfect Chemistry I was hoping this book would offer more of a complex plot or at least something that really threw me off. Im not a fan of the predictable. Although it did feel an awful like the original book it also made my little heart melt. I cant say it enough, Simone is a beast at what she does. I think I can probably read the same plot with different characters 25 times and still fall for it. What can I say? Shes that good. Regardless of the deja vu, this is a great book and I ate it up within a day and half. I most definetly recommend it:)
