The way Thomas King tells a frankly harrowing history along with snide remarks and humorous interjections was an absurd experience, but invaluable.

Much more story telling, tongue in cheek commentary than chronological, academic history. He addresses "dead Indians" vs "live Indians" vs "legal Indians", Native status, residential schools, treaties, modern laws, ecology, and much more.

With historical background provided by other Indigenous history books, I did not feel lost in this conversation.

This is a very informative read but I didn't finish reading it. I will come back to it another time.

I encourage anyone interested in North America's history with First Nations to give this a read. Extremely well written and provides a fantastic synopsis of history from aboriginal perspective.
