Early one morning, Connie turns on her computer to look at a house for sale–a house she’s been obsessing about for months, for reasons that will be explained later on. While doing the virtual tour, she sees a dead woman in a pool of blood in the middle of the lounge. She of course freaks out, wakes up her husband, and makes him look too... except there’s no dead woman when he looks. She still decides to go to the police with her weird story, but there is no actual evidence of any crime, so they’re reluctant to do anything. But Connie can’t let it go.

I’d read a few of Hannah’s Spilling CID series before and had good memories of them, but maybe I should review those feelings. Or read the series in order, that would also probably help with making sense of the recurring characters XD

The story itself, the mystery, was quite interesting in itself (albeit a bit unbelievable and difficult to follow in spots). The thing that made it hard for me to enjoy this book was the characters. They are all, every singe one of them, super unpleasant, not only to the reader, but to each other as well! I mean, there were some relationships that were necessary, but did she have to make every character despicable? The victims, the culprits, the detectives... they were all as bad as the next, and it considerably lowered my opinion of a book that was otherwise not the best, but far from terrible either.

Another fantastically twisty psychological thriller - another book read in a day because i could not put it down. running to get the rest of her books asap 🤩

Connie sees a dead body on a house tour for a house she has become *slightly* obsessed with. Her husband, Kit, doesn’t see it - nor does anyone else.

I LOVED the writing of this - including Connie’s thoughts in italics throughout was so nice and her (and other) character were written so well. I was fully invested in her journey for proof and empathised with her massively.

The inclusion of police evidence throughout was genius and kept me really intrigued in how everything added up (felt like a bit of a detective myself).

I loved how it came together near the end when everything made sense and it became a bit of a race against time - it was so fast paced and just a brilliant experience to read.  Excellent concept, really good read and unexpected twists!

Was a very complex and intriguing tale . A seemingly  unstable woman who encounters shocking and distrubing facts related to her marriage and husband, and sees a murdered body online while doing a virtual house tour.
And the personal saga of Spilling CID team too continues ...

Tinha gostado do personagem).

I first read Sophie Hannah's novel last year starting number 7 in first series and then number 1. The novels can stand on their own, but the connection between Alice and Simon and the relationship between Charlie and Simon makes more sense when you have the background.
The series is nothing like the usual thriller - there is a focus on the houses of the characters and the usual details of the characters domestic lives. The claustrophobia of the kitchen of Connie's parents with everyone there reminds me the homes in the other novels of hers that I have read.
