I loved loved loved having young gyasto! He was such a joy. There are a few times that made me cackle especially…
1. Did anyone else catch that Gyasto is the one who created/established “Flamey-o Hotsman!” Which Aang uses in the TV series.
2. Not much of a cackle but I LOVED when Gyasto explained that air nomads can go to a different temple if they are “sure of their gender shifts” Avatar has always been LBGTQ friendly, ever since we had Korra and then the Kyoshi Novels.

It was HARD reading anything about Sozin’s future knowing how it all plays out in the TV series.

Last catch- at one point when Sozin is debating what his punishment will be if Roku dies he mentions “being exiled” which was kind of a poke at what happens with Zuko in the TV series.

Over all, I loved the main characters and Avatar Roku I just wished he had more bending. Not using other elements until literally the very end! Even though I always love hearing from my girl kyoshi

I really enjoyed having more history into Avatar Roku. Other than what we got in Avatar the Last Airbender.

When it was announced someone else would write the Chronicles of the Avatar books from now on I was scared I wouldn't like them anymore.

But I was wrong. I like this one just as much as the first Kyoshi book, maybe even a little more.

Great addition to the Avatar universe and I can't wait for a second book! (if we're getting a second book)

Highly enjoyable! This has a hint of childhood to it that I wouldnt say existed in Kyoshi or Yangchen's books! Once again, it's hard to judge a book in this series, because I love this universe so much.

However, you can def feel the difference in the language and style of writing between this and the other ones. You will also miss the depth of the characters that the other books gave. These characters needed more fleshing out and the setting can be explained a bit more.

You will start to understand that Sozin is just an overall terrible person, and that Avatar Roku is a cute soft spirit, which makes sense why Aang found it easier to talk to him.

But yeah! Read this as a part of the series because it's very good but needed more! Can't wait for the second one :)

Definitely the worst of the avatar novels thus far, IMO it’s a bit of a shame that F C Yee is no longer writing them, I almost DNF’d but I’m too much of an avatar stan so I had to finish. Just very average but not overtly bad. I also think that Roku is just less interesting of a character than either Kyoshi or Yangchen.
