It was an interesting story but some things I would say were a little weird or cheesy. Like the ending how
the baby was actually his dad’s, and how Bridget just some how jumped like 12 feet. Another thing was just some of the useless, meaningless words the writer used that Orwell would hate LOL.
Also how Bridget died? It just felt like unnecessary and random.

3-1/2. A little slow to start but the suspense ratchets up and it becomes had to put down at the end. Lots of interior monologue for main protagonist (which makes some sense considering to situation he is in) and very descriptive with the olfactory senses, but less so with visuals. Back stories become a bit hard to believe but make a good if slightly contrived story. Twists are a little obvious but enjoyable.

Intense story. The ending was hard to read but well written.

Un pur bonheur de lecture - le genre de livre qu’on n’arrive pas à poser, et auquel on pense quand on est pas en train de le lire. Encore une pépite des éditions Alto :)

I just re-read this book after finding it while cleaning my room. I remember buying it years ago at an airport book store and finishing it in one sitting on the flight. Similar experience reading it the second time around, it's still a really gripping story, and I like the writing style - I found it super immersive.

The story kept me intrigued even though it had a few instances of oddity. It also contains words that do not exist but it fits within the context of the story. Get's a bit too... opinionated and that's why it's only 3 stars.

Wolf Truly is a survivor. His mother dies when he is just a boy, his father, Frankie, is a mess but means well. The two have to leave their home in Michigan after Frankie makes too many messes. They end up @ Frankie's sister's dumpy trailer outside Palm Springs. Lucky for Wolf, he meets Byrd, a kindred spirit. Their friendship takes them up a mountain where they learn about life. On Wolf's 18th birthday, he goes up the mountain alone, but not for long. He stumbles on 3 generations of women. They get lost on the mountain together. A good read.

I don't remember the last time I gasped out loud while reading and I did it three times during this book. I cried twice too. Full disclosure: I was camping in the mountains and doing lots of hiking when I read this book, so I'm sure that made it that much more intense. But I would have loved it anyway.

I was pumped to find this on the shelf at the library and picked it up without hesitation. Despite being in the middle of three other books already, I sat down and began reading at once. All momentum stopped a few pages in and it wasn't until I was over 2/3 of the way through the book that I realized I didn't care about any of the characters. In fact, I found all but one to be insufferable and poorly written. Even worse, half of the story is written in a flashback, giving us more information about our main character's sordid childhood and estranged relationship with his father. The only way I made it through that 50% of the novel was by understanding that I'd never get back to present day-lost on a mountain storyline until I made it through the past.

The best part of the entire book was the death of one of the characters. There was more development in those few paragraphs than in the rest of the book combined.

Three stars for the concept. Who doesn't love a good stranded-in-the-wildnerness story?
