Sammi Leigh Melville

Really enjoyed this exploration of death from many different cultures. The premise was an awesome concept and really well-executed. Melville handles humor, heartbreak and the ups and downs and mysteries of life and death with a deft hand. I also love these characters. All of them are so unique and believable. I love their interactions and how they relate to each other. You get such a well woven tapestry of their backgrounds and beliefs to understand how and why they play a part in the events that unfold. A beautiful, unique, and at its heart, a very human story.

I was gifted a copy in a Storygraph giveaway and was very pleasantly surprised with the book.
It is well written and each character has a distinct personality, the plotline is original and presents topics to discuss religion(s) and death naturally. I highly recommend it if paranormal/ghostly stories are your thing, as well as if you are interested in pondering about your death, and how you are living your life, but somehow still in a light and comfortable way (??).

The premise of the book is incredibly thought provoking and interesting. The take on death and the afterlife was interesting enough to draw you in and somewhat keep you interested. I feel though some of the story parts drug on and came off as somewhat boring and hard to read. The actual storytelling though was amazing and the author was very coherent with the storyline. I just wish the long winded parts were more condensed and more time would have been spent on the ending, which seemed rushed and fell flat.

Took me a while to really get into this one. The story is good, the characters are interesting, but I wasn’t *gripped* by it and kept wandering off to other things. But I did come back to it, and overall enjoyed it.
