Joe Petrosino was an Italian detective who with limited resources fought against the Black Hand, a secret society that extorted money, kidnapped children, and bombed Italians throughout the country in the late 1800s early 1900s. An interesting story of a terrorist organization that I had never heard about. Very sad and scary to think that an organization like this can and does exist today.

I love this author, so he gets graded on a harsher curve than others. Maybe not fair, but it is what it is. I suggest starting with The Good Assassin for a real treat...if a book about Mussad tracking down an escaped WW2 war criminal in South America could be considered a treat, anyway. And a true story.

Lots of potential conceptually and well-researched, but dry to the point I was basically praying for death by the end. Just the most boring presentation of this information possible.

A good historical book to understand the US of the time.

Glad I read it, but written in a melodramatic style and never gave a sense of why the Black Hand did what they did.
