Truthfully, I have been underwhelmed by this series. So, I am DNF'ing this book at 23%. I'm up to chapter 4, there is already been two sex scenes. One of which is between teens again or barely 18 year olds still in high school and that's not ok with me. Just because teens have sex, does not mean that I as an adult want to read about it. It's not ok. There are several other things I didn't like about this book, but that's the main reason I'm not finishing. Also, I will not continue on with this series.

‼️SPOILERS FOR DAYS‼️
3 stars? 3.5?

I feel like this book could have been two. Our main couple’s story felt wrapped up half way in but the book just kept going… and going… and going…
By the time I got to the end I was trying to recall all that had happened in my favorite mountain town.
And to summarize, it was… hectic.

Let’s recap:

COUPLES/MARRIAGES/NEW CHARACTERS
Vanessa + Paul (this should have been one book, not half a book)
Walt + Muriel (very random side story, but okay)
Nikki + Joe (not a fan. cringing multiple times)

THE BABIES:
Mel gives birth
Paige gives birth
Bri is pregnant

THE DRAMA:
Vanessa’s MIL and the pediatrician
The almost baby Paul
Mel almost dies (this felt rushed and quickly forgotten)
Fire threatens the town
Jack is MISSING after an EXPLOSION.
I mean COME ON.

And then there’s Ricky and Tom and their storylines…

I feel like I’m forgetting things.
This was a very eventful installment and probably my LEAST favorite so far. Too many things happening at once made it feel messy and rushed at times.

…on to book six anyway because I still love these characters and this town.

Robyn Carr writes a very particular sort of contemporary romance, where the book is mostly focused on one couple, but really it's about the whole ensemble. In this case, Second Chance Pass is about Vanessa, the widowed wife of one of Jack's Marine buddies (Matt), and Paul, her dead husband's best friend. Way back when they all met, Paul saw Vanessa first and had the whole "love at first sight" thing that's real prevalent in these books, but stepped aside once Matt showed interest. Now that Matt is dead, Paul still loves Vanessa and wonders if there could be a future for them.

But beyond their story, there is a whole host of "second chances" floating around. Mel and Paige are having their second children with their respective husbands. Paul's friend Joe falls in insta-love with Vanessa's friend Nicki and screws it up. Vanessa's father Walt starts a friendship with the retired Hollywood actress down the road that may be the second act for each of them. I smell a few future book set-ups here.

The best things about this series are that they are 1) predictable and 2) just dang nice. If you can't handle a bunch of sickly sweet lovey dovey stuff, these books are not for you. But if you just like a nice read about an entangled group of people who do a lot of falling in love and supporting each other, this is a solid series.

Another great story. These characters are all so special - you just want to read more to be a part of their lives.

Loved revisiting characters from previous novels and having the focus shift to so many places. The setting was, as always, beautifully done. I still think Brie and Mike got shortchanged. Vanni drove me insane and I'm glad the focus shifted and moved away from them. Overall a well done novel. Can't wait for the next.

I’m still trying to find out what happens after the cliffhanger on season two. Five books in and no luck yet.
