another good book in the River Valley Series. The only problem with this one was it seemed like the author tried to cram a little too much into one book. I didn't really understand why, when I know there are lots more books to come, why it seemed like she tried to tell too many stories in one book. But, I am really enjoying this series. It is all nice and cozy and happy and easy for sitting by the pool summer reading.

Reading another book in Robyn Carr’s Virgin River feels like coming home with a big hug. I have read several of the books in this series but have had to do this out of sequence when borrowing them from the library. I am trying to fill in the gaps from the start of the series now.

The main characters in this book are Vanessa (Vanni), widow of Matt, and Paul Haggerty, a builder who was Matt’s lifelong best friend.

The start of this book focuses on their love for each other and how they get to the point of admitting this to each other.

We are introduced to Cameron, a paediatrician who Vannie’s mom in law tries to set her up with.

Vanni’s dad, retired Army General Walt who meets the retired film star Muriel St Clair, his next door neighbour.

Architect Joe (a friend of Paul’s and also an ex-marine) meets and falls in love with Nikki, Vanni’s good friend.

Mel and Jack’s second child, daughter Emma is born.

There is a forest fire and Jack is caught up in it.

Lots of the puzzle pieces that lay the foundation for future stories in the series. I love the sense of community in this series, that characters aren’t scared to fall in love and commit to each other, as well as a healthy dose of lust

Wow so much happens in this book!! Technically this is Vanessa and Paul’s story which it definitely is and it’s full of DRAMA but so much happens in every one else’s lives in Virgin River as well! I laughed, I cried, I swooned and I cried some more. I have a unhealthy attachment to these people I love them and hope this series never ends I need books forever. Definitely one of my faves in the series so far.

‼️SPOILERS FOR DAYS‼️
3 stars? 3.5?

I feel like this book could have been two. Our main couple’s story felt wrapped up half way in but the book just kept going… and going… and going…
By the time I got to the end I was trying to recall all that had happened in my favorite mountain town.
And to summarize, it was… hectic.

Let’s recap:

COUPLES/MARRIAGES/NEW CHARACTERS
Vanessa + Paul (this should have been one book, not half a book)
Walt + Muriel (very random side story, but okay)
Nikki + Joe (not a fan. cringing multiple times)

THE BABIES:
Mel gives birth
Paige gives birth
Bri is pregnant

THE DRAMA:
Vanessa’s MIL and the pediatrician
The almost baby Paul
Mel almost dies (this felt rushed and quickly forgotten)
Fire threatens the town
Jack is MISSING after an EXPLOSION.
I mean COME ON.

And then there’s Ricky and Tom and their storylines…

I feel like I’m forgetting things.
This was a very eventful installment and probably my LEAST favorite so far. Too many things happening at once made it feel messy and rushed at times.

…on to book six anyway because I still love these characters and this town.

I really enjoyed this one. It was quite racy compared to the others! This is a strong series that I will continue to read.
