Adored the Netflix series, had to read the book after! Nicholls writes the characters beautifully and develops them well over the novel which spans 20 years. I became invested in their lives and devastated towards the end of the story. It did feel slow in places and the style of writing switching between action was confusing to start off with but all in all a wonderful read. Would definitely recommend!

Not a terrible book but a bit meh. I didn’t particularly like the characters and thought they were idiots for not getting together for so long. If I had liked them then perhaps it would have been 3 stars.
I like the concept of having each chapter being the same day just a year in the future but I felt it missed out a lot of plot and left me again feeling like I didn’t care.
It was alright and I don’t regret reading it but I won’t reread it

Not totally sure what to say about this book. I don't actually like the characters that much. If I met Dexter in real life I would hate him. If I met Emma in real life I'd be irritated by her. However, I found myself rooting for them throughout the story. I like that we get a glimpse into their lives for just one day out of the year, each year. We aren't given a synopsis for the other 364 days that we missed, but we are given enough to truly understand where they are what's going on. It made sense. I liked that their relationship was flawed in so many ways and there were years where they didn't even talk to each other on this one day. It wasn't a particularly romantic story. It wasn't exactly a study on the human condition. It was just a story about two people and what they are to each other. There were many parts that completely resonated with me, and I might have been blinking back some tears there at the end (I've seen the movie, so it wasn't a shock. But it's *very* well written. The after part, that is.). So overall, I enjoyed the book.
