I’ve never said this before, but the tv show was better than the book! The book was a great supplement for a few miniscule missing pieces.

About 1/4 through this book I wanted to rate it with 4 or even 5 stars. Even after having finished the book, I still really enjoyed the way each chapter took you ahead to the following year. This kept the book interesting and I never felt like the storyline was stagnant. I was excited to learn what had happened in the lives of Dexter and Emma in the course of one year. I give credit to the author for not obviously stating these changes at the outset of each chapter, but rather by weaving in little (or big) details discreetly into the narrative.
My only issue with the book was how weak and unlikeable Dexter's character became. I couldn't ever really feel sorry for him, and reading about his path towards self-destruction was unbearable.
I wish the story had ended differently, or to have seen Dexter changed more.
I can't wait to see how this story will translate to film, and I question the casting of Anne Hathaway as a believable Emma.
