The beginning and end of this book were engaging. The middle was very boring and forgettable. Glad I listened to an audiobook instead of reading it because it dragged on so much.

It was a very good book for its time, and while I can’t really hold Twain to the standards of current society, I still found the way he ended Hucks growth as a character to be a bit halfassed. The ending itself left a lot to be desired.

Set in the antebellum south, Huckleberry Finn is a very realistic critique of the minds of people growing up in racist societies. Mark Twain expertly portrays the reality of living in this sort of experience. Although, we most likely will never know if his critique was done on purpose or if he just portrayed Huck's world so vividly he did it by accident, it does an incredible job at helping us understand the life of children who are unfortunately a product of their environment.

Good riddance. A Few funny lines, reflective moments, and good discussions were not worth the rest of the book being nonsensical, boring, and Ridiculously Racist.

this was honestly a fun book to read for school. so many random things happened but I had a great time. I couldn’t understand the book without an audio recording, and if he said the n word less I would’ve given it a higher rating. still had fun with it though. 4/5 stars

I have a complicated relationship with classics, where I want to read them all, but rarely get much enjoyment out of them. It was time for me to give another classic a go, this time The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and the experience wasn't all that enjoyable. Oftentimes, I couldn't get passed a lot of the language, and some of the over-the-top scenes. I didn't find myself absorbed in the story and passages often felt long-winded and drawn out. I think it is safe to say classics are definitely not my jam, but chances are I'll continue to pick them up every so often.
What I will say is there is definitely value to this book in a historical context, making in an important book for readers. I am convinced my experience would have been different if this had been assigned reading to dissect and discuss, as opposed to picking it up for the simple pleasure of reading.

While I generally like Huck Finn as a character, this book was a slog to read through. The only good parts of it were the beginning where Huck fakes his own death successfully and rather impressively at that and the end, though reaching that end was like pulling teeth. The story was best when focusing only on Huck and Jim, even if some parts were frankly uncomfortable to read (an unsurprising aspect of reading period-typical racism).
I read this since it's a 'classic', and because I'd greatly enjoyed Huck's character over Tom's when reading Tom Sawyer, but honestly I don't think it was worth it.
