The cultural and societal aspects are what drew me to this book, being ever curious of how past lives have been lived. It's dense, to be sure, I struggled to be caught by the intro all the way to the first essay, but once getting into the laborious flow of the writing it was definitely rewarding. A book I would call an essential intro for dipping your toes into the waters of trade history linked to societal evolutions.
