Wow. So good. So powerful.
The characters didn’t feel too personal so it felt like a story but the commentary made it.

Scalding analysis of a severed parental relationship. The protagonist is obsessed with trying to understand how the rupture happened, how it built up and how it evolved.

I found this book unpleasantly claustrophobic to read. The running, breathless, obsessive thoughts of main character reminded me too much of how my thoughts can feel when I am in an anxious and unwell mental state. For some this won't be an issue, but I just found the experience of reading this novel too frustrating and unpleasant. That's not to say that I don't persevere with books that make me uncomfortable - only that this book made me uncomfortable in a particular way, and additionally I just felt like I was getting nothing from it as a narrative. So I decided to be kind to myself and just dnf it.
