This book was full of characters who are all horrible and overreact or underreact to everything that happens! Painful to read at times.

I just love Jane Green books - simple, charming, and entertaining. Easy "beach" reads. This one seemed very familiar - I may have read it before. And I noticed a possible error - in the beginning of the book, it made a point of Ellie, the main character, refraining from alcohol, as her mother was an alcoholic and died in a car accident. However, once she had children, it talks about going out for drinks a lot. So, does that mean children drive you to drink? Because I'm thinking that the answer to that may be yes.

The Other Woman was a light read and was basically enjoyable. Ellie falls in love with Dan as well as his amazing family, hoping to become a part of the happy family she's never had. However, the controlling, passive-aggressive mother-in-law soon interferes with her happiness. I chuckled at many parts and could relate to some of Ellie's frustration.

I was annoyed with Ellie's whininess, however. She seemed to blow everything out of proportion and I just wanted to shake her and tell her to get a grip and join the real world! She acted like a spoiled child on many occasions, whining and carrying on over the tiniest things. For example, Ellie's mother-in-law spent a ton of money on her baby. Yes, I understand that Ellie wanted to buy things for her baby, but big friggin deal! It was not the end of the world nor was it worthy of a dramatic leaving of the room complete with the slamming of a door and total breakdown in tears. Wah, wah. Someone else bought things for her baby. Ellie needed a dose of reality and to figure out what it meant to have real problems. Had Ellie set some boundaries with her mother-in-law in the first place, most of her problems would have been solved.

I did enjoy the book and could relate to many of the feelings of a first time mother - the exhaustion, the stress, and the strain of balancing a new baby in a marriage. If you're looking for a nice, light read this book will do, but be prepared to be annoyed with Ellie.

The first half was okay and an easy read, but then it got depressing.

Midway through the book, I had to check it's publication date. Contemporary fiction from the early 2000s? Yeah, it makes sense that that's not really my taste. I found both the main character her mother-in-law annoying. The book is also very white, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But it's just not for me.

Entertaining but little substance. Pretty much the PERFECT beach read!!

The story was relatable, which made it interesting, but overall, the book was just ok.

This book frustrates me.
emotional tense medium-paced

Another great read from Jane Green. She doesn't seem to ever disappoint!
