The history and geography and culture immersion are delightful. Although quite cringe a few times with the language referring to native Americans, which unfortunately was a product of the times.

And not a single hot air balloon made an appearance. Where does this cover get off? Someone tell me I’m not crazy and tell me there’s a movie adaptation out there with hot air balloons!

The comic relief saved the day and I really liked that.

Despite most of the images associated this book, there is no hot air balloon involved. If you're big into geography and punctuality, this might be the book for you. In my opinion, Fogg is a shallow character with deep pockets, who solves nearly all of his problems by throwing money at them.

A very entertaining novel, albeit historically inaccurate. Everyone is familiar with Mr. Fogg's bet with the London society to travel around the world in 80 days, but I enjoyed it, particularly because I was able to compare the limited cultural knowledge of the English in India to the current knowledge. :)

My 13 year old daughter told me Jules Verne is one of her favorite authors now, so I had to finally some of his best known works. Around the World in Eighty Days is a slim book that's a quick read, full of action and interesting characters. The end is gripping and you'll find yourself cheering on the protagonists.

Jules Verne uses this book to describe some very interesting things happening around the world at the time, from buffalo herds, to opium dens, Mormon conflicts with the US government and deadly Hindu religious rituals. It's not a super deep book full of massive character development, but it is an interesting and fun journey.

If you haven't read the book, I'd definitely recommend it.
