Nice quick read but I could have done w/o the james storyline, the book didn't need it.

I’ve liked a couple of this author’s more recent books but this, her first one from 2011, is downright aggravating. An ill-advised romance is shoehorned into the suspense of a battered wife on the run. A lot of cringe-worthy, unnecessary tropes are woven in. I skimmed a lot when the hot 46 year old ex-cop acted like a 14 year old. The woman is a standard waif who is good with horses. She and her green eyes attract every deviant within 100 miles. The politics angle is written like someone without much insight into politics. Everything is just too thin and attitudes are much too dated for 2011. I’d give it a pass for 1991 maybe.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
Really great book, tons of action, suspense and emotional scenes. Great characters and the narration was perfectly performed. There is some content that may be a trigger for some. I recommend this book.

I usually like this author but this series doesn’t appeal to me. Characters fall too quickly into physical romance and the crime too unrealistically violent.

So much happened to this poor woman that it became unbelievable for me. Not my cup of tea.

An OK read. A bit of a slow burn kind of romantic suspense. I enjoyed this author's newer books much better.

Some quotes from this horrible, awful, no good, very bad book:

"The image had little effect on the pornographic slide show running through his head. With the horse in the background, Jack's mind added a cowboy hat and boots to the stripper ensemble his brain had superimposed on Beth."

Does this sound like mystery-thriller writing to you? Me neither.

Or how about this little gem: "The vision of his weird neighbor was a definite boner-shrinker."

Is this author a fifteen year old boy, because that is what she writes like.

I threw the book in the trash. I don't even want to donate it to my library. Two hours of my life I cannot get back now..
