Definitely dated—reflecting the mores and attitudes of the time period. But, a ripping good yarn all the same!

I read this book partly because I recently watched the Ken Burns’ documentary on Mark Twain, and partly because I wanted to read this and Huckleberry Finn before reading James. I think it was interesting enough. I appreciated the humor that Twain wove into the story. The racism and language was hard to get through. Overall, I’m glad to check it off my list and move on.

An entertaining and endearing read for an audience of all ages. Children can relate and say "I do that!" and adults can marvel at the charm of youth and reminiscence on their own childhoods.
