I'd have given two stars maybe even three if the ending hadn't pissed me off so much.

Another great book in the series though I was woried for Haidee when she took his demons and the circus realm will end up giving me nightmares at some point I'm sure. Over all I liked it and can't wait to read about Strider and Kaia.

While I am an avid fan of Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series, this one was not my favorite.
Was it good? Yes. Was it paced well enough to keep my attention? Yes. Did I like Amun and Haidee as a couple? Sure. However, as I think often happens within a series, there seemed to be so much going on in the other stories (with Strider and William and Paris and Kaia and so on and so on), that I felt the developing relationship between the protagonists (one of the things that attracts me to this series) was a little rushed and lackluster.
And the ending felt a little over the top cheesy to me: "I am Love!" Really? It seemed a little out of character for Haidee, in my humble opinion.
All in all, though, the book is a wonderful continuation of the series and I look forward to Strider's installment.

Better than the last one! I still really enjoy this series and have not grown tired of it. The banter among the characters is hilarious and the romance is sizzling. Amun's story was an interesting one and his relationship with the demon huntress Haidee proved to be a good one. Haidee carried hate within her so that is why she caused so much grief trying to end the life of the those she thought wronged her. Their trip to Hell proved fascinating. I am curious as why the horseman wanted his hands and how Haidee will aide the warriors in the coming books.
I am very excited for Strider's story. Showalter does a good job paving the way to the next book.

i took a while finishing this book bc idk whether i just wasn't in a reading mood the day i started it or it was just boring asf lol like i wasn't that excited to read this book bc this character was eh to me but like once i got like 2/3 into the book i was feeling it and i ate it up but i feel like this is on the lower end on my favs in the series like it just wasn't what i wanted. also i didn't like the ending of the book like it left w two characters upset w each other and how
the girl came back to life felt a cope out yk like she had to bs a way to a happy ending and i wasn't a fan of it. tbh i liked the other perspective of the book than the main perssective bc the characters were just annoying to me. i'm excited for the next book for sure bc of the lead up of the next book was so good like i love the giri character. like the main characters of this book i like them but their story wasn't my favorite but the plot twists in this one good asf didn't expect that shit i think it was just the plot and conflict i wasn't really into since it felt so slow and lowkey i think i've been reading sm that i'm dumb at reading now be i was rereading hella times tryna understand wtf the author meant i think it might be the authors writing style in this book i didn't like that's why i prefer her recent books anyways this gets a 7.5/10 it might be my least favorite but i still enjoyed it to some extent yk but i cant wait for the next book it better be good or imma be disappointed like that book was the reason wanted to start the series.

Certainly not the best one out of the series, but the ending left me satisfied.

I loved it soooo much! The LOTU series is one of my favorite and I was absolutely not disappointed with The Darkest Secret.
We didn’t know Amun much, he was always really discrete and I wasn’t really enthusiastic about this book. Such a good surprise. Amun was so perfect; he was sweet, protective, loyal… Haidee was not what I expected either. I really didn’t want to like her (with Baden and all) but it’s impossible not to. We learn so much about her past and the reasons she did what she did and I fell in love with her. She was so sweet, fierce and protective toward Amun.
And then, Amun and Haidee together: perfect! Their relation was a bit complicated at the beginning, confusing even, but when they were together in Hell, they learned to love and trust each other. It was so great!
Let’s talk a bit about Stridey-man. I was kind of sad for him at the beginning, he was completely lost, he didn’t know what to think of Haidee and all… but he made me laugh like crazy. Seriously, when he was with Paris and William and they called Maddox: PRICELESS.
Anyway, such an awesome book! The story was good, the romance was perfect… I cannot wait to read The Darkest Surrender and discover more about Kaia and Strider.

I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series. Amun has been a favorite of mine for some time and it was nice to have his story. I liked Haidee as his love interest as well because she was so sweet on him. A well thought out story with enough twists and turns until the very end that keeps the reader unable to put it down.
