This is the continuation of Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series. I've really enjoyed this series... up to the last two books. This one was ok but the relationship was a little TOO far fetched. I know, I know... it's about a group of men who house demons and the women who love them. But, Haidee spent lives hating them and then bam... instant forgiveness. Hmmmm... Showalter explains it all thoroughly but...
If you like this series, then definitely read it; there is set up for future novels, but don't expect the fun and excitement of the earlier stories. If you haven't read any of these in this series before, don't start with this one... you'll find it VERY confusing.

So far I've loved every book in the Lords of the Underworld series. This was no exception. The only thing that nagged at me was my own impatience on Strider's situation. I LOVE his character and found myself wanting to skip over Amun's chapters to get back to Strider. He would say that's inevitable because he's "made of awesome" (duh) but I felt bad that I wanted to skip through any of this wonderful book. There were a few really hot scenes but not so many that I got bored with it, and the character interaction made sense for what was happening at the time. I was a little angry at Amun (and still am) for fighting Strider at the end and then expecting an apology from him, but that's because of my own personal feelings for the keeper of Defeat.

Seven books into [a:Gena Showalter|48192|Gena Showalter|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1289112836p2/48192.jpg]'s Lords of the Underworld series and the stories and characters are still so engaging. This story picks up with the consequences of Amun's trip into Hell. It didn't really advance the larger story arc of the quest for the artifacts that threads through this series, but that didn't really matter to me. I was enthralled with the history of both Amun and Haidee. Haidee is so compelling a heroine. I love that Showalter makes her women just as tough as the men. There are no weak, cowering Mary Janes to be found here. In fact Haidee, like many of the women in this series, is tougher than her mate. It is such a refreshing contrast to the way in which others, such as [a:J.R. Ward|20248|J.R. Ward|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1290108346p2/20248.jpg], treat their females characters.
As a complete aside, the set up for the next novel has me so excited!

This was a good book in the series, told the story of Amun, keeper of Secrets and Haidee, Hunter and Killer of Baden. Their trip into Hell is challenging and engaging, and the side story with Strider is entertaining.
It's a strong sequel and holds it's own in the series, but I find my attention wavering overall. I've liked these books and enjoyed them, and they are very well written, but I don't find them surprising me or doing anything new or different. I didn't notice anything with the series arc storyline progressing in this story, and that was a disappointment to me.

I didn't think I'd like Amun's story, but I was pleasantly surprised! I can't wait to see what kind of shenanigans Strider gets in to.

I gave this book 4.5 stars. I think this is the best book in the series so far. It has a lot more action than most of the other books.

3 - 3.5 stars? I don't know.
It wasn't as attractive as the previous books in the series. I truly love Amun's character, I really do but Haidee? Strider? The love triangle, oh my dear lord that ill love triangle! Where were the others? The amazing, action packed plot of my boys fighting for their dreams, women? I understand where the whole plot is going now but the main reason I love this series is the balance between love and action. While it is an adult romance series, I love how beautiful the big plot is. Looking for Pandora's box so that they can forgive themselves for all their sins and more. Sadly, I couldn't get the continuation feeling from this one. Even Lucien's book was somewhat okay next to this.
I love the author, her style, her characters and I love Amun. I do, really.
It just wasn't as full as I needed.
