This one just did not sit with me very well, I can’t tell if it was immediately turned off by the description of the crime, or if I just have not been a great life place to enjoy this. I was ecstatic to see Mona‘s story line grow and that is the only takeaway I really got out of this book.

Holy cow, what a phenomenal book!!
Kate Burkholder is a kick ass female character, and a police chief working to solve a murder in the Amish community. I could not put this book down. The twists were awesome.
Awesome book by Linda Castillo!

Two incidents in less than six months in the tight lipped Amish community, that could bring shame to the whole area. One is an suicide and the other is murder by arson. Are they related or just random acts??
As Kate begins to investigate the case her past invades thoughts in her mind and she wonders if she can be objective and solve the case.
After questioning people in the community she learns Daniel who died in the fire is not the good boy everyone claims him to be. It seems as he was a wild evil streak in him and he preys on Amish girls.
Castillo does an excellent job with the police procedural aspect of the story while balancing the Amish community need for privacy and understanding of their values.
MY one pet peeve with this series, was not so much time around. Kate got herself into two shaky situations but she didn't just run headfirst into them.

The 10th in the Kate Burkholder series, and the story line is still fresh and enjoyable to read!
When a barn in the local Amish community burns down, the local police chief, Kate Burkholder works tirelessly to solve the crime of who did it, and more importantly, WHY. Kate is forced to deal with the demons in front of her, but also the demons of her past.
Another great read by Linda Castillo. Great to read as part of the series, but is a good stand alone novel as well!

I rated this a 5 because The ending is so wonderful. Until the end I was rating it a four because I was listening to it instead of reading it. This is really a book to be read rather than listened to. This is a gender bending book that not everyone will like. Kind of sci-fi and kind of philosophical. Gives you a lot to think about

Love Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder books. She is so adept at bringing in twists and turns I don't anticipate, and I really like the characters that are in this series.
