Very slow beginning. Realised the most I would give the book was a 2.5

I got about half way through and knew this wasn't for me. The premise is unique and, if in someone else's hands, may have been much better. It suffered from insta-love and weird pacing.

This book was... fine.

X's story was interesting and introduced a rich, dark underworld. Zoe's was dull. Zoe was overall pretty dull and defined predominantly by good intentions with foolish execution. The romance was tangential at best and the overall moral was very thin and illogical.

Fantastic read! A dystopian epic fantasy hybrid that was original and funny with characters that I cared about and loved. Can’t wait for book two!

I really enjoyed this book. It was different, which was refreshing. It's a unique love story, combined with unique, supernatural flare and will appeal to readers of a variety of genres. Kudos to Jeff Giles for an amazing start to a series.

3.5 - Rant : the book was cute, sweet, kinda dark, probably like 3.5 bc I felt some parts were rushed and the romance-aspect was very fast paced and I was kinda confused. BUT the concept is nice, I like the characters, the back story was very interesting, side characters has actual personality. I think it’s part of a series so the ending kinda makes sense. Pretty good!

This book was solid. The concept was cool, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of the insta-love that took place. Also I feel like I have a ton more questions about the Lowlands. If this novel turns into a series I look forward to getting more detail and backstory on the world in general and learning more about X's background.

I struggled with this from the start and couldn’t connect with any of the characters because they were either cliche stereotype or dull or both, but I pushed through. However, as soon as I realised this was all about two strangers falling head over heals in love without even knowing each other, I lost interest.

Really more 3.5 for me. Good relationships, interesting Daddy Long Legs fact, but did not like how the sinners' sins were recounted.
