I knew what the solution was (and even the fake-out) at just over 100 pages, which isn't ideal. I also found it too referential as a fan of the genre - there comes a point where it just seems unoriginal. There's even a line where the main character rebukes the victim for a similar failing. The characters are broadly odious, and as a Glaswegian myself it really bothers me when people try to write a character in phonetically-spelled dialect. I think it comes off as patronising (RP is not written phonetically) and never authentic. Adding that the character slips in and out of her accent as some sort of affectation seemed like a cop out. Despite that, I did enjoy the prose, and reading it was an enjoyable experience.
