What a beautifully weird little book this was! Was it a good book? Honestly, I don’t really know. Was I on the edge of my seat/completely enthralled for most of this book? Absolutely. Short book that just absolutely draws you in, fun for an afternoon where you want a fun, quick read.
If you like a lot of answers and things to be wrapped up neatly this isn’t the book for you. The ending is completely open ended and I still don’t really know what happened (but have some theories). The ending was also incredibly abrupt. There also wasn’t a ton of explanation throughout the book about what was happening and how (don’t ask how, don’t ask why).
There was some unnecessary sexual scenes that seemed thrown in just because and didn’t really add to the story at all. It was also never explained why these two teens got so obsessed with the house in the lake. But in a lot of the story you could really feel the first love emotions and the “whole world is open before us” feelings of being a teenager and that was good.
Overall, this was a weird little book that had me hooked and if you’re looking for a weird, quick, fun read might as well give this one a try.
