Breaking down comics, particularly ones born online, into volumes is difficult and its hard to know how to review this one.
The characters are great, complicated and the push and pull they have with each other is intense. They show every sign of being the centre of a very interesting and engaging series.
Unfortunately, I struggled with the lack of world building. As the reader I didn't feel like I knew any more about what was going on in this world at the end of the book than I did at the beginning. I suspect its great, but I think it probably needs to he read in longer volumes.

I heard this being described as Heartstopper but with darker themes and so was looking forward to reading it. Although it was decent, unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations.
Breaks is about two equal lead boys around 17 years old that have a frenemy feel to them. Cortland Hunt is the new boy with a hard home life (we don't know why though) and is seen by other students as mysterious and dangerous. Ian Tanner is in the "popular" group at school which is lead by a nasty bully called Spencer.
The story is pretty basic and slow with very little background information into the lead characters lives or how they got there. I understand the authors are probably going to use that at a later stage but it made the whole story a bit 2D. The characters also added to this lack of depth as we didn't really get to know much about them. There were also a LOT of side characters and at times I had no clue who it was (e.g. who Cortland's brother speaks to as it looked like their mum but seems it was his other half?! So confused). Cortland and Ian really needed more personality other than a lit of angst and a little joking. It just wasn't enough to get a connection to them.
My favourite aspect of the book was the artwork which I think was really well done. I especially loved the use of the background behind the characters to display their thoughts and emotions. The artist is obviously very talented, it is just a shame the story didn't live up to it.
Overall, nowhere near close to Heartstopper in emotion, characterisation or storytelling, but the art was good. Due to this, I won't be continuing this series.
Please note that I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel, it was a very interesting read
Saw this floating around on my Amazon Recommendations list and thought I'd get it a go and I'm not disappointed, but at the same time, I'm disappointed that there isn't a 2nd volume to read yet.
The art style fits well, I like the direction the story took and character design, don't know who my favourite character is at the moment though.

Okay, this one was...a bit darker than I expected. I mean, I expected an enemies-to-lovers trope but what I got was a bit more tame than that. These two really aren't enemies. They play at it, with words, but it isn't really serious.
While the illustrations were really nice and the story had potential, I just didn't feel it.
For a start, EVERYONE was just so angry! I mean, not one page passed without a physical or verbal fight between the characters. They were all itching for a fight, with short trigger tempers, and anger issues. It got a bit exhausting to read.
The characters themselves were a bit one dimensional and flat. The girls were vapid, vacuous and insipid, which really rubbed me up the wrong way. And the boys had some sort of secret club they kept talking about, but which was never explained. I have no meaning what it refers to, but it almost sounds like a fight club or a pseudo-gang. And most of the characters were selfish and reactive idiots, not thinking about consequences or being smart about what they were up to.
The ending was abrupt, I was left with a lot of unanswered questions, and it doesn't appear that Volume 2 will be released anytime soon.
In all honesty, I liked it. It was, overall, pretty decent. BUT, if the comic is only being made one week at a time, with weekly updates, then by the time Volume 2 comes around I'm going to have forgotten everything about this comic, why I liked it, and just remember the lacklustre feeling of rating it a 3* because of all of its issues.
While it had potential, sadly, I'm left feeling more frustrated by it than eager to read more.
