Very satisfied with Alanna’s journey. It’s been a while since I binged through a series like this, and I forgot how sad the comedown can be.

I was torn on the rating for this, as I was for the entire series. Somewhere around 3.5 stars for all, but there is enough missing to round down rather than up. That said, I enjoyed this quartet and would recommend it to its intended audience without hesitation.

This book was truly amazing, it has everything; action, adventure, romance, and comedy. Tamora Pierce is is quite talented in developing her characters and their relationships, with my favorite being Alanna's relationship with Myles and Liam. And since George is my favorite character, I'm glad he got a fitting conclusion. I wish I had read these books before Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen, as they probably would have made those a tad more enjoyable.

This was better than book three but not by much. Alanna character felt really down graded in this. Also bring back Roger did seem redundant.

The only disappointing aspect about the book is the heteronormative everyone-gets-paired-up and the person who didn’t get paired up with someone dies. I think this series is FANTASTIC for challenging gender norms, I was just ~slightly~ disappointed that we got so much challenging content only to end up being happy heteronormative pairings. I wanted a little more diversity in the pairings whether there was more heartbreak, there were non-hetero pairings, or there were more people who were content in not being paired up if that makes sense. Otherwise fantastic book in a fantastic series.
