It wasn’t fair on Elantris to read this as a breather in between Rhythm Of War and Wind And Truth but at this point I am all in on reading the entire Cosmere so it had to slot in somewhere. Elantris is not a bad book by ANY means. By almost any other fantasy standard it is exceptional. It’s just not peak-Sanderson and so it’s a shame when the characters don’t give you that warm and fuzzy feeling; when the incidents are spread a bit too thin; when the intrigue isn’t always there. All that said, before Wind… I’m going to hoover up the 2 Elantris shorts within Arcanum and I’d devour a sequel. This just had a lot to live up to, and personally for me, I found it a little lacking in the key things I love most about Sanderson’s later work.
