Pretty solid, a fair bit of hopping around timeline wise but for that hang of it fairly easy, narrative voice is very easy to follow

Curioso libro en cuanto a que es muy indio, esa ojeada a vidas distintas siempre me gusta. Me aburrió a ratos, más cuanto más divertido pretendía ser. 3,5⭐ más que 3.

Funny and fast paced novel about a poor Indian boy who “makes it”. I didn’t get some of the Indian words and references but I was still able to really enjoy the story. I really liked the crazy characters.

This was an interesting story of a young man growing up poor in India and some of the choices that he makes along the way. It is sometimes sad and sometimes funny but it makes you consider that decisions made for you and by you change the trajectory of your life.

If Elmore Leonard met Slumdog Millionaire you would get this book. A dark, scathing satire on what happens when India gets its capitalist greed on. Ramesh makes his living by taking exams for the lazy sons of rich people. All is well until he takes an exam for Rudi Saxena and gets the highest marks in the entire country, inadvertently catapulting Rudi into fame he cannot handle without Ramesh' help. When Rudi upsets the son of a wealthy man on national television, things go badly wrong and a series of plots, counter plots and kidnappings ensue that are both funny and terrifying. Clever, brutal writing and fierce pacing make this a real page turner.

Entertaining, but not amazing. Dark humor, a lot of social commentary on present-day India.

CW: islamophobia, fatphobia, corporal punishment, violence
