Maybe closer to 3.5, but overall I did really enjoy this story. The magic and the lore are wonderful, the plot didn’t really have any slow parts. One small complaint is the narration- the narrator is quite lovely and does great with all the voices with the exception of the FMC who sounds like an old Irish granny. It doesn’t take much away from the story but I do wish it was a little softer. Also the sequel is apparently not available on Audible so that’s a major bummer for me. I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger ending but I did want to hear more.

Another stunning read by Emma Hamm, she never disappoints! I was throughly entranced by the story and ideas in this book, both characters where solid and even the supporting cast ... cat? ... brought the story to another level of entertainment. I felt that this book payed close attention to Aisling POV more so than it did Bran’s however, and my only issue was that their relationship felt like it was built due to the interest in each others issues rather than their personalities - but, this is only part one of the story so I have yet to see the conclusion to their romance. I’m quite impatient and hope to see it out soon!

A great fantasy read! The prose was very purple at parts, which slowed it down a little. But overall, a great pick for anyone that likes retellings and books about the fae.

I liked the way Irish folklore was kinda incorporated in the story. It’s done lightly but the author says so in the foreword which excuses the things that are not accurate.

The story felt a bit unfinished. Why is there nothing done with the side character that can’t change back. There was such a opportunity to do that.

It was also not exactly the ending i envisioned but that surprised me positively as most of these romance fantasy stories are wildly predictable.

The start was quite slow and the characters already seen before, but still I enjoyed my read. The story really did pick up after a few hundred pages and it was a delight to follow the adventures of Bran and Aisling. Without spoiling it, the end surprised me in a good sense, even if I was quite baffled at the decisions of some of the characters and reasoning behind them. Still, I'm excited to read the second and last book of this duology.

I am highly obsessed with the relationship between Bran and Aisling. Reading about a strong headed witch, that curses a member of the Fae and basically forces him to do her bidding was a breath of fresh air. As the story progresses, both parties realise that they need each other and need to learn how to rely on one another. Enemies to lovers vibe, but not in a toxic-relationship kind of way.

The relationship grows organically and is believable. Plus the ending (that I won't spoil) will have you on the floor. Can't wait to read the sequel.
