This was a solid book 2!  Watching these two navigate loving eachother without being able to be together is frustrating, but in a good way.

The world building continues.  The villainous creeps seem to ne ever changing and you're never quite sure what's going to happen next.

The cliffhanger leaves you with a solid are you fucking serious moment though.  It's a trope, not overdone but still annoying.  Like, can we stop doing the typical cliffhangers and maybe try something fresh and new?

But of course I'm diving right into book 3

ARC Review: Silver Wings Golden Games

After that cliffhanger from White Horse Black Nights, I was eagerly awaiting this sequel and it arrived in grand fashion! And it departs in even grander fashion than its predecessor. All I can say is I’m sitting on pins and needles needing that third book like yesterday!

Suffice to say: loved it. Silver Wings is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year so far. I was so happy to return to Sabine and Wolf, and surprisingly very intrigued by the rise of Rian.

Sabine. My beautiful heroine remains a sublime lead. I so greatly enjoy following her on her journey. Once again she’s a caged bird, but this time, she’s ready to break free. She’s ready to reclaim and keep her long sought agency. Her gift is showcased in spectacular fashion, not just in its glory but in its danger. Sabine still has much to learn but she's eager to do so. In addition to learning more of what she can do, we see how her kindness and desire to help others consistently sets her path forward. She's a very selfless, inspiring person.

I love her romance with Wolf and how through him she comes to learn what love even is. Something she sorely needs in life. We have our delicious spicy scenes, but this story does an exemplary job in also ensuring there’s a clear emotional connection within the love story. I do think it strikes a good balance between the spicy and romantic/emotionally-connecting scenes.

Wolf Ah, Basten. How I love him. I really appreciate how we have his POV. I will always love dual POVs in romances because of the understanding it establishes between reader and characters that may not always be on the same page. We come to understand Wolf’s choices through his perspective.

I never once doubted his love for Sabine. He’s so loyal and devoted to her safety above all else. However, something that I came to really feel towards was his fragile friendship and brotherhood with Rian. Every bit we learned about their shared history made my heart go out to them. I was surprised to find myself yearning they’d mend their bond and stand on the same side once more.

Rian. Rian made for an alluring figure. He’s complex, he’s complicated, he’s incredibly unpredictable— and not once did I feel I had a good read on him. All that made for a character I couldn’t take my eyes off from. I was surprised by how much I looked forward to every scene he was in. He keeps the readers on their toes and makes an already exciting book all the more so with his presence.

These characters led the story in a mesmerizing way, I found myself at the edge of my seat time and time again, anticipating their every move. The ending took my breath away. How can I move on without knowing what happens next?! All I can do is patiently (ok impatiently) await the next book because I know the wait will absolutely be worth it.

I'm in for the long haul!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
