I felt like this book couldn't really decide if it wanted to be a dark romance or not, and it kind of awkwardly straddled the line with Remington sometimes being coercive and forceful and sometimes sweet and sappy. The romance was okay, although very insta, but the mafia plot was weak and the ending was very predictable. I've only read one previous book in this universe and this read fine without having read all the other books, but it did commit the cardinal sin of having part of the epilogue be from the POV of the MC of the next book (just make that a preview instead of having it be part of this book!).

Fairy tales
This book hit me with some awesome Pretty Woman vibes. Of course these vibes also included a mafia twist and is set in New Orleans but what’s not to love about any of that? I love the Theriot family. They know how to put family first and love with all they have. Remy, who definitely has giving orders down pat but is so fun to witness, is no exception. He’s understandably taken with sweet, shy Henri from the first, who’s a balm and brings calm to Remy’s chaotic life. I’d want to snuggle him all day too, but let’s not forget the heat these two generate. “What I really wanted—crazy as it might sound—was to be the only one to ever have him. I wanted to keep him.” *fans self* They burned through the pages and it was yummy. I loved the action and the danger but it’s the softness and openness these two have and how the whole world disappears for them that made my heart full. So bring on the King cake and let the good times continue!

While I enjoyed this read, it's possibly my least liked so far for this author whose work I adore. It was still an easy enough, fast paced read with some entertaining moments but just didn't completely crab me.
Remy came across very messy and he just never really grew on me, one moment saying Henri has a choice and next that he doesn't. I get what it was trying to do, but didn't come across well and I just don't feel got to see much of their feelings develop outside of the bedroom.
Henri I adored from start to finish, he was charming and I liked that he had his own dreams & thoughts. Still seeking answers and didn't completely follow instructions, even though he did enjoy it. He had his own dreams and desires, wasn't simply swept up in everything.
I did adore meeting the family though, they were all interesting and fun moments to the tale. Lance is definitely a favourite for me and his monkey Tony is so cute!
Not that interested in Corbin, he just comes across very Young and like his siblings say "spoiled". His story looks almost similar concept to this one just different setup so probably skipping it.
There's a few steamy moments which are great and they do have incredible chemistry. Can see how they'd work together and they get their happy ending, although it did feel abrupt and the last few pages are from Corbin's pov see the start to his story.
Anyway, it's an entertaining read just some areas didn't completely work for me.

Ah, I love a good ol’ possessive alpha top and a submissive, shy bottom

Barf. No chemistry between the characters at all. It felt so forced. I did appreciate some aspects of the family though, like Tony the monkey.
I think I’m just learning that instalove is very hard for me to enjoy.

Great new spin off
I have loved all the other books in this shared world and so eagerly anticipated this book, I wasn't disappointed. The action moves to New Orleans and a family that has been in business for generations. Henri sees Remington somewhere he shouldn't be, so Remy takes him home. Another hot and steamy action packed read by one of my favourite authors.
