I wasn't sure if I would like this book bc I do not like Marius. And even though he tries to paint himself in a better light (so unreliably narrated, bestie) the hypocrisy that defines his character still comes through. He spends so much time lamenting the fall of Rome to invaders when, what was it Rome was known for again? He seems to despise religion, considers himself above that sort of thing, but worships and prays to Akasha. He constantly repeats to Thorne that anger is weakness and he seeks not to be angry but the moment someone even slightly contradicts him he explodes, often to just regret it later. He looses two ppl he considers to be the loves of his life, Pandora and Armand, through that. He almost made the same mistake with Bianca but at least he realized his mistake faster that time. But seriously he's 15 hundred years old at that point, you think he would have learned. I'm not saying I dislike the book bc of him, he's a complicated character, I don't seek books just to be entertained by characters who I agree with all their actions and feelings. I'm just saying if he spoke to me like he spoke to others I'd probably deck him.
Marius told Lestat that he deserved everything that ever happened to him but he must've been projecting because it's Marius who really deserved every bad thing that ever happened to him.
