i read this book just over 2 weeks ago and i'm having to google it to write this review so uh, maybe an indication of how memorable the book was??

right. google has reminded me. i actually really liked this book! the premise is a little girl went missing 12 years ago, it's now the present day and she's returned but all is not as it seems. spoiler free good things: i haven't read a missing girl thriller that's done in quite this way before & the ending was genuinely pretty thrilling.

spoilers:

so we find out fairly early on that she an imposter and i neeeeearly dnf'd the book. i'm much more of a fan of the returnee actually being the missing person. however, it really picked up from there and there's a really intriguing cat and mouse between the girl and 'her' parents

so, enjoyable in the moment but fairly forgettable in the long run

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is about Jenny who was kidnapped as a six year old. 12 years later she escapes and goes back home. Jenny thinks that she is safe now but is she?

This was a really fast thriller full of secrets and lies. I managed to read most of it in one sitting as I couldn’t put it down. At times I did get confused as there was a lot of names to remember and the story goes backwards and forwards. I will definitely be looking out for more by this author.

This was an entertaining, twisty, very DARK thriller that definitely did NOT go in the direction I thought it would. I will say that the writing was a bit confusing at times, there are flashbacks randomly interspersed during the narration, but overall it was a fun ride

Thanks to the publisher for the early copy in exchange for my honest review

Not only was this just a good thriller, I had this one with me while I was waiting for a tow truck to come get me (damn alternator went out on me). So I had plenty of uninterrupted time to finish this one up. SAFE by S.K. Barnett was a really quick read and I think it was unique and twisty! I flew through the ending and couldn’t wait to see how it was going to end.

Jenny was on her way to her friend’s house when she was taken off the sidewalk. Her quiet neighborhood was rocked and most lost hope that they would ever see her again. Fast forward twelve years – Jenny has returned home safely. Her family welcomes her back home, and I’m sure you can imagine how overjoyed they all were that she was alive and returned to them. What happened in the those twelve years? How did she get away? Was she released? Where was she? So many unanswered questions and it seems like every time we get an answer more questions surface. I loved how we were constantly trying to piece together the mystery.

Overall, a thriller I would definitely recommend! I’ll be keeping an eye out for more from Barnett in the future. I feel like this one stood out against a lot of the thrillers and suspense books that all seem to blend together (not that it’s a bad thing). A great summer read for the TBR!

I was given a free advanced copy of this book by Dutton Books in exchange for my honest review. I stopped reading about 100 pages in. The book thus far is grim without reward and on children, no less. I read a lot of thrillers and mysteries and some horror, and I can handle a lot of things, but I also can easily predict a twist coming. I can make a pretty good guess about how this one is going to turn out and the writing and the darkness of the plot just isn't worth it for me. Maybe if someone doesn't read a lot of thrillers they might enjoy this one more than I did.
