WOW! This book was so gripping from the get go, I loved the characters and the story so much. There was no slow build up to an end twist as with most thrillers and instead was constantly changing the dynamic throwing twists around left, right and centre, a lot of which were predictable but it was fine because of how often these twists occurred.
The writing style was great and I couldn't believe that this is a debut novel. Every part of this book was incredible until the ending which just felt too rushed for me and I could think of quite a few ways I would rather this have gone which is the only reason this book isn't getting a five star rating.
If you are a fan of thrillers you will likely love this! I read it in just 2 hours as I could not put it down for a second.

TW: Please be aware there is heavy sexual assault including assault of a minor.

Jenny Kristal was six the day she went down the street to play with a friend. She never got to the friend's house. No one found Jenny, and they never figured out who abducted her.

Twelve years later, she shows up in her home town and essentially turns herself into the cops, announcing that she's home. All Jenny wants is to be safe. She just wants her happy home with its warm bed. She has endured a life of sexual abuse and drug-addicted "parents." Now it's time just to live safely.

But what if Jenny Kristal isn't Jenny Kristal?

I can't write more than that without sharply reducing your desire to read this, and you would miss out on one of the creepiest most twisty thrillers you'll read in a while. It will stay with you in memory for a long time. So talented is this author that you'll both love and hate the main character sometimes simultaneously. If you're one of these smug readers who thinks you can get it all figured out early on, the author will humble you. It won't work that way. I read this everywhere but in the shower, and I'd have read it there had I had some good waterproof earbuds.

You often see reports on the news of kidnap victims found and reunited with their families years later. I always wonder how it works out, how they get used to being a family again and if it means a happy ending for all concerned. I sincerely hope that none of those families experience anything like the family in this book did.

Mainly told by the viewpoint of Jenny, but also Ben, her brother and Jake, her father you could see how Jenny’s reappearance affected them all. I thought I knew which way the storyline would go but it didn’t take me long to discover that there was a lot to this novel, that would hint at something a lot more sinister. And nothing that occurred at the beginning of the book would prepare me for what was revealed the further I read.

Jenny was a character who I liked more as I got to know her. Independent, inquisitive, determined and loyal. I appreciated her friendship with Tabs, whose family life couldn’t have been more different. This friendship added some relief to the rest of the storyline which was at times a little unsettling.

I don’t know if I have read other books by this author with him writing under a pseudonym, but I would like to in the future.
