Good bedtime book! Honestly wish the essays had been a bit longer, they felt a little shallow bc of how short they were

The concept of Nerd Nites is very attractive (science! laughs! beer!—for some people) and sadly, I have never attended one, nor is there one near me. However, since my day job involves a lot of nerdiness, I can embrace the concept vicariously through this book. And it is a good one, but alack, the collection format makes for fairly uneven quality. I get it, not every expert/scientist can be a consummate stand-up comedian. It's just that the juxtaposition of the ultra-funny and the plain earnest doesn't do the latter any favors.
Faves include: Cephalopods: The Impossibly Awesome Invertebrates, Finding Nemo(’s Sex): Sex Change and Gender Roles in Anemonefishes, The Mathematics of Gossip, Getting to Know Infinity, and Math for a Better City. Honorable mention to the dating apps essay.

I didn't realize this was a ton of fascinating totally unrelated snippets, but I loved it anyway. A great book for leaving around and flipping through, you can read these in any order. So many topics that might pique your curiosity and lead to further reading or offer exciting career directions you might have not known existed.

This made me laugh out loud (WHILE LEARNING!! Who knew that was possible). I learned about things I kind of wish I didn’t (I’m looking at you, nasty chapter) and things that made me smile (like how life existed before us and will most likely move on without us). Absolutely loved it.

This book was very informative and enjoyable.
If this were a serial podcast I would subscribe. It would also make a great "Bathroom Reader" where you only have short periods to read. With that said, it was also good to just sit back and listen to. The Narration is very good, and even though a lot of information is being delivered in a short time, it does not seem overwhelming at all.
It makes me want to go to the next Nerd Nite in my area!

Basically a bunch of cute little ted style talks on a bunch of diverse topics.
