Another fun book from Scottoline, outstandingly narrated by Rosenblat. As usual the heroine is a smart, sassy, good looking and stylish blonde Italian lawyer, but this one is a federal judge. The plot is over the top but the legal details are accurate. I enjoyed listening.

Good entertainment, although it started off in such a fashion I wasn't sure why I started.

Ended up going with the abridged version of the audio after hearing that the book was just okay anyway from my book club. When I switched quickly to the hardcover - that first 1/3 of it seemed almost identical to the abridged audio - interested to see what was cut out.

This book was great to the end. It was definitely the page turner I needed.

I think I've admitted already that I don't find Lisa Scottoline to be a great author. I've read a few of her books now and am just not a big fan. People magazine calls this novel "a breathless thriller," but I did not find that to be the case. The main character in this novel is developed very well, as are the other characters. It's the story line that I felt really dragged, and wasn't all that exciting to begin with. I felt like there were some attempts at climatic moments, but when they came, they just didn't do it for me.

It wasn't horrible, but it's probably not one at the top of my recommendation list, either.

I enjoy Lisa Scottoline's mystery books. I especially love the Rosato & Associates ones because of the great stories & characters. This is a non-series novel & definitely one of the weaker books overall. Judge Cate Fante just isn't a good character. She isn't the strong, independent, smart women I've come to know & expect from Lisa's writing. And the mystery itself is far too long with unnecessary plot twists that don't add anything.

It's still a good book but not a great Lisa Scottoline legal mystery like the rest.

This book was definitely a page turner and moved along at a fast pace, however I just felt that there was a bit too much going on and none of it was explored in depth. I found it difficult to believe that there would be so much media frenzy about someone's "public" private life, particularly when they are single. I also found the revelation of the real murderer was glossed over and discarded quickly and just didn't seem believable. Good for a bit of light reading, but not wholly satisfying!

Not one of Scottoline's best but still enjoyed the unpredictable ending.

The back matter made this sound much more salacious than it really was, and I guess I was kind of disappointed on that front. The story moves along at a pretty good clip, but the characters weren't compelling and the suspense really didn't do it for me. Cate feels appropriately ashamed of her big secret and decides to abandon her problem behavior pretty early on in the story, which sucked all of the drama and tension out of the situation, and when it's revealed to everyone, she calmly owns up to it, which kills the tension there, too. The villains were so over-the-top they were irritating and their motivations made little sense. Granted, I don't read too many thrillers, but I've heard good things about Scottoline and the premise sounded interesting, but I think I'd have been better off just watching an episode of "Law & Order" instead.
