Entertaining and a quick read, but kinda silly and definitely dated too

I was bored the majority of this book and the twist didn't make up for it.

Ouch. What happened, Lisa? I've enjoyed so many of Scottoline's books but this one was not up to par. If you're just starting to read this author, don't start with Dirty Blonde. I've always felt the Bennie Rosato & co. books were better than her stand-alone titles anyway.

I'm not sure why I finished this book. It really didn't do anything for me. I didn't care about the characters, I wasn't even sure what the main plot was for most of the book. I read another book by this author and I remember really liking it. This one....nope....

After a couple of heavier reads, I picked up a couple of Scottoline books for some fairly mindless thriller fun. Instead of a fun snack, though, these have been more like the half-melted chocolate bar that you find at the bottom of a bag, with a piece of lint half baked into it. You feel a little gross having eaten it, and disappointed as well. This one was better than the last, though it still had some fairly large issues. This author is probably just not my style, though I'm sure I will pick up another book by her some day.

My mother had given me this book to read and she really liked it. I found the main character of Cate Fante likable and I enjoyed the suspense and twists and turns in the story. I especially found interesting the part on Centralia, PA. A town (or former town) that I had never heard of before.

For something to listen to while spending time alone, this book does the trick. For enlightening literature or any intellectual stimulation, try something else. The story kept my attention just enough to make doing the laundry more interesting. I couldn't really relate to any of the characters, and the plot was driven mostly by the trouble the protagonist had gotten herself into, making the "thrilling" aspects of the storyline sort of boring.
