FINALLY we get some Shouko POV. I love that the author made this choice with translating almost none of Shouko's words until this point. Her move at the end of the last volume was something no one saw coming, and it was such a blow, just like the real thing would have been.

The fact that we've waited this long to hear her puts us in the same position as Ishida, and just makes her voice FINALLY being readable that much more powerful a move. Such a stunning book.

I think this one is perhaps the best of the series. We see how everyone is affected by what happened years ago. On the other hand this is probably the most challenging one to read as the characters we have grown to adore reach their lowest points.

En apprendre plus sur chacun des autres personnages étaient un grand plus. Ça rajoute plus de profondeurs à tout le monde.

This volume gives me a lump in my throat. I’m shocked the story is wrapping up this way— truly unpredictable. Great writing.

From a deaf perspective. This story is very hard to read. The author really had a chance during shoko chapter towards the end to be impactful. While it was visually interesting to show a visual aspect to how shoko understands spoken language. All of that valuable insight was thrown out the window the moment they started “ thang yew foh leddig me bowwoh dis boog, miyoko” (page 158 book 6)

As for the others. Their personal stories make it worse. (I realize that’s the point) but topics like suicide always make me ask “has anyone asked a person who’s wanted to commit suicide, why?” Instead of focusing on -they are selfish. They didn’t think about us, or me!- they all treated shoko so badly and then turn around and ask how could she do this?

Yet another tearful piece of the story. I'm finding it weird to see how Shoya's mom is dealing with the entire situation, but if there is one thing I definitely could not ignore was the part in which Shoko was so fed up with the entire situation that she wanted nothing but to end her own life, and once again this was done in such a powerful way. Oima depicts with perfection how this decision affects the ones who love you the most. This is the part that ends up building Yuzuru as the character she is now, and this is so fantastic, because at the same time it begins to work their mother's personality as well.

In spite of still hating Naoka, I can't say all characters aren't complex and very well-built. They reflect very well the idea that each person is fighting their own battles. Loved it.
