Революционный метод быстрого изучения любого иностранного языка by Gabriel Wyner, Гэбриэл Вайнер

I love learning languages, especially when trying to understand simple phrases to use when traveling, so I’ve read my fair share of books on learning languages. I have to say that Gabriel Wyner’s Fluent Forever is hands down my favorite book on the study of languages.
The writing style is straightforward and easy to read, and there are so many great and modern techniques and resources that I’ve never learned before. I’ll probably never forget the author’s tip to google foreign words, so that you learn the context and have millions of results to reference and remember. Amazing!
All the strategies are modern, creative, and very well thought out. Now that the author has updated this book to a new edition, there’s even a section on AI-based learning tools, which I use quite often for language learning. I wish I had read this during the year I was learning Mandarin in college.
Five stars all the way.

While not the most academic of sources, I think the casual tone and memoir approach to language learning makes the reader feel at ease. I look forward to trying out some of the methods described!

I might give this a try and see if I can improve. I've only been trying to learn German for 40 years, maybe I'll finally get somewhat fluent?

So back when I first decided that I *actually* was going to learn foreign languages I added a bunch of books like these to my want to read list.
Now I don't know who came first but I read Fluent in 3 Months and got involved with that community first; so all these other books are just repetition of those ideas with some minor differences. I was pointed to a new resource or two but honestly I'll probably take non-specific language guides off of my list now.
I kind of know what I'm doing

time to admit i'm never going to finish this book.
while a lot of the contents are interesting and could be quite helpful, i found the authors fanatical devotion to Anki a bit off putting. the last quarter of the book is just an in depth Anki tutorial, and while it's free on the web is exorbitantly priced for iPhone, where I do most of my on the go learning. to top it off things like Memrise which ARE free across ll platforms and work very similarly are never mentioned.
ah well, I learned some interesting Language learning stuff and will probably put some of it to use on the next language I learn.

It took me a while to get through this book because I was actually using techniques described in it as I went.
One of the most useful books I've come across on language learning. There are a lot of tools and plenty of advice on offer here, and even if you don't use all of it, there is a good chance almost every reader will find something helpful.
