Delightful train mystery, not quite murder on the Orient express but engrossing all the same. I feel this moved on the romantic plot significantly, with Daisy meeting and caring for Belinda, not to mention finding herself in Alec's bedroom in her night gown and getting kissed! Twice!
Graphic: Racial slurs, Racism
I am really enjoying this series with the intrepid Daisy! Really enjoyed the exchanges with Daisy and her beau’s daughter, and glad everyone (well, most everyone) was safe and well at the conclusion.
I’ll be interested to see how the romance develops in subsequent novels!
And! I think the narrator does a great job - very pleasant to listen to!

The Honorable Daisy Dalrymple is on her way to her next assignment for Town and Country Magazine, a piece on a stately home in Scotland. She is riding the famous Flying Scotsman, London-to-Edinburgh train. As she is settling into the first-class car cabin she splurged on, Belinda shows up. Belinda is Scotland Yard Detective Sergent Alec Fletcher’s 9-year-old daughter who has run away to find her dad. Having heard Daisy’s message about going to Edinburgh she thought it was close to where her dad was working. Daisy sorts out Belinda’s fair and makes arrangements to get word to Belinda’s grandmother.
Also aboard the train is an old school chum, Anne Breton, and her extended family. They have been summoned to Alistair McGowan. The family is eager to comply as they want to secure their plan in his will. Being perceived as a miser, the family thinks Alistair has stowed away a large sum of money.
Belinda, heading off to catch up with new friends (members of Anne’s family), she meets Albert McGowan, Alistair’s twin brother. She gets to know him a little, sitting enraptured in his stories of his time in India and is invited back for tea. Daisy, now worried as Belinda has been gone quite a while, finds her in Albert’s cabin. There she also meets, Dr. Jagai and learns how he is connected to the family. Unfortunately, Belinda discovers Albert, dead when she returns for their tea.
After viewing the scene with Mr. Weeks, Albert’s valet, Daisy suspects that Albert was murdered. Meeting with the local police, Daisy points out that there may be an issue of jurisdiction as well as the need to contact Alec anyway due to Belinda’s presence, that it may be a case for Scotland Yard.
It was nice to see Daisy temper her investigating, thinking of the care and safety of Belinda over her curiosity. Usually, in stories with lots of characters, I get lost as to who is who, but not in this one. I didn’t have to take notes or anything.
Nice to see some movement in the Daisy-Alec relationship. Daisy has a growing affection for Belinda and vice-versa. It was a read, so much so I finished in one day.
Happy Reading!

Love Daisy — she gets better with every book.
The first book in this series that I read. Great audio book narrator. Loved the train storyline.
