“Open your heart,” she said gently. “Someone will come. Someone will come for you. But first you must open your heart.” [203]

another beautifully and heart fluttering story. a timeless piece that remind you of all of the heartache that comes with growing old. To not close your heart because the pain is inevitable, so love love love as much as you possible can. For as the time passes it will feel as though time has speed through for a brief moment. <3

A heartbreaking story of the capacity to love, and be loved, and all the sacrifices that come with loving. I will be teaching this to students in a few months and I wanted to be prepared since colleagues said that they'd cried over it in previous years. I didn't shed tears, but I was moved. DiCamillo is a pro at crafting characters you care about, and characters that change. It's a quick read, full of symbolism--and a little magic. It's a worthy tale.

I loved this book in elementary; re-reading made me love it again, and also cry. I don't think I cried when I first read it, but I cried during certain chapters during my re-read.
I just wanted more for Bryce, my pure bean didn't deserve to be just forced to give him up I get it but still

Read this for the first time in 2nd grade and I remember it made me cry in front of the whole class. Good book.

This was and still is my all time favorite book I have ever read. I have read it so many times over and over again that I can recite the first few chapters and recall the entire story in my own words. I can even quote many of my favorite parts of the story! It was my start into reading, and it is my inspiration every day as I continue into my own writing journey. Kate DiCamillo is an amazing author and the emotion and scenery in this book is so beautiful. It was the first book that actually made me cry, and introduced me to the fact that books can actually make you feel something.
